Planning
to work abroad? is a unique system for potential
expatriates to assess their own suitability for an
assignment. It helps individuals and their families to
prepare for the opportunity to work abroad and to think
about and resolve some of the associated issues ahead of
time.
The main focus of the guide is a questionnaire which will
prompt consideration of the implications expatriation will
have on personal circumstances and will provoke discussion
and debate about the main issues.
The guide is primarily for the individual to use, but
feedback arising from the issues considered may be helpful
to HR managers in forming their international policy and
could be incorporated into existing processes such as
expatriate training, appraisals, offer of assignment and
career counselling.

90% of companies acknowledge that pre-assignment
preparation affects the expatriate's ability to settle
and impacts on their consequent job performance.
